3 ways AI can accelerate the green transition

Alongside the green innovation partnership, MissionGreenFuels, AgriFoodTure took the stage at the recent Digital Tech Summit in Copenhagen.

During the presentation, AgriFoodTure’s board member Lars Leopold Hinrichsen shared his views on AI’s role in the green transformation of agriculture and food production in Denmark.

According to Lars Leopold Hinrichsen, there are three specific areas where AI can contribute to accelerating the green transformation:

1. Making data understandable
As the number of sensors increases on equipment in the barns, the volume of valuable data also rises. AI presents a fantastic opportunity to make this data understandable, enabling farmers to respond or even allowing equipment and regulations to react on their own. This can promote the green transition by optimizing production with minimal climate impact.

2. Enhancing breeding development
With AI, it is possible to achieve even faster and more efficient breeding development for both animals and plants. Much is already happening, and the genetic data volumes are enormous. However, AI can significantly enhance the work, for example, by incorporating even more breeding goals. This will increase growth efficiency, reducing emissions for the benefit of the climate.

3. Integrating data in the value chain
Finally, with AI, it is possible to integrate data throughout the value chain to a much greater extent than today. This allows for optimal production, minimizing waste (and thus CO2e), and focusing efforts where the greatest value creation is with the least climate impact.
