PERMA FS MEPS

PERMA Full Scale Methane Eradication Photochemical System

Goal

  • Build and operate a full-scale MEPS for a 100-cow barn; integrate barn-air extraction and controls.
  • Demonstrate 75–90 % removal of methane, ammonia and odor, low energy use, and auditable measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) data
  • Deliver a certified, scalable Danish solution producing low-methane milk by 2028, with TRL 8–9 and routes to EU/NA deployment

Plan

  • Finalize design, suppliers, and build full-scale MEPS + barn extraction (2026–27)
  • Commission, run and optimize in live barn across seasons; measure CH₄/NH₃/odor & energy (2027–28)
  • Produce peer-reviewed evidence and LCA; validate ≥75–90% CH₄ removal
  • Map certification and regulatory path; align with Arla/industry adoption
  • Prepare commercialization and scale-up in DK/EU/NA by 2028+

Expected results

  • Full-scale MEPS demonstrated in a 100-cow barn
  • ≥75–90% methane removal plus ammonia/odor reduction
  • Seasonal performance, energy use, and MRV data documented
  • Peer-reviewed evidence and LCA published
  • Clear certification and adoption path toward market launch
